Fair ready for 101st celebration with new theme
DURHAM — With a little over a week to go until the 2021 Durham Fair , local volunteers are getting ready and excited to be back at it after last year’s cancellation due to the pandemic.
The fair runs from Sept. 23 to 26. The theme this year, the fair’s 101st anniversary, is “Growing Stronger.”
“It seems fitting as our local community puts in the extra effort to ensure our attendees, exhibitors, and fair goers can safely enjoy this year’s event,” organizer Debbie Huscher said in a statement.
The Durham Fair is committed to following all recommended COVID guidelines, she said, including:
Face masks required on bus rides for both the vaccinated and unvaccinated
Face masks are required for unvaccinated fairgoers
in all indoor spaces, including buildings, barns and tents
Social distancing is recommended whenever possible
Sanitizing stations will be available throughout the fairgrounds
In addition, Griffin Hospital will be offering onsite vaccinations of all shot brands, near the White’s Gate.
This year’s entertainment brings 40 musical acts across four stages, monster trucks and motorized events, spectacular
fireworks display on Thursday night, and Military Appreciation Day is back on Sunday, offering free admission for active military, as well as veterans, the press release said.
The livestock departments are always a big hit, said Huscher, who added, “keep a lookout for the two sows and their piglets, too!”
Local nonprofit organizations will be selling food and refreshments on the grounds.
