Nicholas Carmen Laucella
Nicholas Carmen Laucella, of Branford passed away September 18, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family and caregiver. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Romano Laucella, who passed away two years ago. Nick longed to be with Shirley, now they are together again. Born in New Haven on July 15, 1931, son of the late Joseph Nicholas and Catherine Laucella, Nick served in the then Army Air Force from February 1949 until January 1950 when he was honorably discharged so he could go back home to care for his aged parents. He completed two additional years of military service in the Army Reserves. He worked several jobs in his early post Army Air Force career before beginning his career with GE Appliances, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1991. During his career, Nick was an active member of the National Home Builders Association on the local, state and national level. He was awarded with GE’s top sales award, The Masters Award, twice, as well as numerous awards for top salesperson. He was a dedicated, customer-focused salesperson. He is the loving father of Diane (Gerald) Rudnick, Mark (Alison) Laucella and Michael (Linda) Laucella. Brother of the late Josephine Cagliotti, Lucy Mattson, Anna Ricciardelli and Victor, James and Thomas Laucella. Nick’s greatest achievement was being the world’s best Poppie to his grandchildren: Andrea, Gregory, Erica and Kelsey Laucella & Steven and Christopher Rudnick. They were his world and he was theirs. Brother-inlaw of Barbara Henderson, Rosemarie Romano and James Romano. Nick’s family would like to thank the many caregivers that provided compassionate, respectful and loving care over the past two years, especially Ada Ortiz, Latoya Whyte, Claudia Cozzi, Sharon Angus, Ray Ortiz and the staff of CT Hospice of Branford.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday afternoon from 4:00-7:00 in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 in St. Michael Church. Burial will be private. Per the City of New Haven, masks must be worn for all indoor services.
