UConn announces First Night plans: Student-only event

UConn Basketball First Night is back.

After canceling the event in 2020 due to the pandemic, UConn First Night returns to Gampel Pavilion on Friday, October 15 as a UConn student-only event starting at 7 p.m.

“The decision to allow admission to UConn students only was made out of an abundance of caution and is not an indication of similar plans being made for the 2021-22 season,” UConn athletic director David Benedict said in Friday’s release.

First Night will be broadcast live on CW20, a Fox 61 affiliate, and live streamed on UConn Huskies Facebook page. For those students attending the event in person, admission is free with doors opening at 6 p.m.

“Seeing our fans return to our home venues during the fall has been encouraging and I look forward to welcoming UConn Nation back to Gampel Pavilion and the XL Center in the weeks ahead,” Benedict said. “I am excited for the students to create an electric atmosphere on October 15, and I know our basketball teams are looking forward to experiencing a raucous Gampel Pavilion.”
