Charles “Charlie” Lewis 1936-2021

OXFORD - Charles E. “Charlie” Lewis, 85, entered into eternal rest September 26, 2021 after a brief illness with loved ones by his side. Charlie was born January 6, 1936 in Seymour to the late Mary Zennis and Charles Boston Lewis. In 1953, he married Joanne Gabinelli of Ansonia. It was there they made their home and raised a family. He worked for 38 years, 1956-1994, at Sikorsky Aircraft in the Engineerin­g Fatigue Lab. In 1976 he and Joanne built their home in Oxford. After Joanne’s death in 1991, he was fortunate to meet Marie Jannetty of Wolcott. They were married, Charlie retired and they began an active life of traveling until her death in 2016. Charlie lived life his own way. He loved his family, traveling, animals, eating out, a good glass of wine and Donald Trump. He was predecease­d by his wife Joanne, wife Marie and beloved son Chuck. He is survived by his sister Evelyn (Nick) Amico of Ansonia, daughter Carol, 5 stepchildr­en, 13 grandchild­ren, 8 great-grandchild­ren, 7 nephews, one niece and dear friends Gus, Maria, and Ray. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road in Oxford. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Oxford.
