New Haven Register (New Haven, CT)
An unfounded attack
The Sept. 21 article detailing William Legere III’s unfounded attacks on Milford’s registrars of voters was very distressing. Despite the fact that the registrars are bipartisan, he accused them of “an obvious attack on the Republican Party of Milford” by including an incorrect ZIP code (but not address) on the return envelopes for absentee ballots. (It is well-known that the post office readily and correctly handles such inconsistencies.) Indeed, my wife and I both received such mailings, and neither of us are registered Republicans. How could this fact constitute an attack on the Republican Party? Had Mr. Legere bothered to check, he would have found that many non-Republicans received such mailings. But these facts did not deter his wild attacks and direct insults to the registrars. As for the error, your reporter readily uncovered the nature of the mistake, as Legere could have done had he bothered. It is distressing to realize that such an individual could be elected to oversee our children’s education. He has demonstrated that he has neither the competence, nor the temperament, to serve.
