Police: City man, 25, shot on Newhall Street
NEW HAVEN — A 25-year-old city man was shot Thursday night on Newhall Street, police said.
Officers responded to Newhall Street between its intersections with Hazel and Ivy streets at 7:42 p.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert of gunfire, Officer Scott Shumway said in an email.
“Responding officers located a 25-yearold New Haven man, who had crashed his car on Dixwell Avenue, and had been struck by gunfire,” said Shumway. “American Medical Response transported the victim to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.”
Shumway asked that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with the department contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.

As of Sept. 26, there had been 22 homicides, 85 non-fatal shootings and 264 incidents of shots fired in New Haven this year, according to the latest statistics from police.
At this time last year, there had been 16 homicides, 79 shootings, and 161 incidents of shots fired, police reported.
The last time the city saw so many incidents in any of the three categories by this time in the year was 2011, according to the department.
At this point in that year, there had been 25 homicides, 92 non-fatal shootings and 318 incidents of shots fired.
