Dillon Stadium will be site of state finals

The CIAC boys and girls soccer championships have a new home. All eight state championship matches will be held at Dillon Stadium, home of USL Championship franchise Hartford Athletic, the CIAC announced Monday.

Four games will be played on both Nov. 20 and Nov. 21.

“We are happy to announce that Dillon Stadium will host all eight Boys and Girls Soccer State Championship games this year,” CIAC Associate Executive Director Gregg Simon said in a release.

“When we used Dillon Stadium for four state championship games in 2019, there was such a tremendous vibe. The kids come out of the locker room, into the tunnel, out on to the field, there’s nothing quite like playing in a professional soccer stadium.”

The 5,500-seat stadium, opened in 1935, underwent a $14 million renovation project and reopened in July 2019.

“Hartford Athletic is once again excited to host the CIAC Soccer State Championships at Dillon Stadium,” said Joe Calafiore, senior vice president of marketing and strategy for Hartford Athletic in the release.

“Dillon Stadium has once again become a hub for our community and serves as the perfect jewel event venue for the State Championships. Thank you to the CIAC for their partnership, and we cannot wait to see Connecticut’s top high school soccer programs take the field at Dillon in November.”
