Foster does a little of everything as Seymour cruises past Wolcott

SEYMOUR 48 WOLCOTT 12

SEYMOUR — Seymour’s Sean Foster did everything short of selling hot dogs at the concession stand Friday night.

Foster caught two touchdown passes, kicked and recovered an onside kick, ran a fake punt for a first down and he also kicked six extra points.

“I like the fake punt the best,” Foster said. “We called ‘Lenny’ and its supposed to be pass to the wing but I saw the kid turn around so I just took it myself. Our defense came up when our offense couldn’t and then we just meshed together.”

Foster’s monster game was part of an overall strong effort from Seymour which pulled away from Wolcott for the 48-12 win.

The win moves the Wildcats to 4-0 with a bye week before a big NVL showdown with undefeated Ansonia in two weeks.

Seymour got on the board early on with Colin Frey running the ball out of the wildcat formation for a 9-yard touchdown less than three minutes into the game.

Wolcott tied the game 6-6 in the second quarter on a 10-yard pick-6 by linebacker Quinn Pawlak.

Seymour then closed the half in style, scoring three times in the final 1:30 and twice in the final 18 seconds, led by Foster.

With 1:28 left in the half, quarterback Caden Drezek ran the ball in from four yards out.

Following a quick 3-and-out by Wolcott, Drezek hit Foster on a 44-yard touchdown pass with :17.4 left.

After he kicked the extra point, Foster kicked an onside kick up the middle, chased it and pounced on it.

A few seconds later, Drezek hit Caleb Nimo-Sefah for a 33-yard touchdown pass, making it 27-6 at the half.

“That was pretty good,” Seymour coach Mike Kearns said. “We made a couple of calls and things really worked out in our favor. We weren’t planning on

doing the onside kick but we saw something and made an adjustment. Then we punched in another. That’s great and exactly how we want to finish the half.”

Kearns said the defense played its best game of the season.

“That was the best game so far for our defense,” Kearns said. “They played a full four-quarter game against a tough team. Wolcott is a very strong running team and we were able to shut them down.”

The Wolcott running game was never able to gain traction, due to a lack of blocking according to coach Chris Theriault.

“We couldn’t block them. We couldn’t block them,” Theriault said. “They’d get penetration, our quarterback didn’t have enough time to throw and we wee getting hit at the line of scrimmage when we ran. We just struggled.”

Wolcott scored after a long drive in the third quarter on a 2-yard lunge by Anthony Bell.

From there, Seymour closed the game in style, scoring three times in the fourth quarter, including

one more by Foster on a 31-yard pass from Drezek.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Sean Foster, Seymour, Sr, WR/DB/K/P: Foster was the man Friday night on offense, special teams and defense where he broke up several passes from his defensive back position.

QUOTABLE

“Sean is a very talented football player and he’s only getting better. He’s the receiver, he’s the kick returner, he’s the kicker, he’s a safety. He’s a do-it-all type player and he had an excellent game today. He’s a pretty darn good football player and am really happy with his effort today” — Seymour coach Mike Kearns
