Nine to be inducted into the CHSCA HOF
The Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA) will induct nine people into its 44th Hall of Fame ceremony on Nov. 18 at the Aqua Turf in Southington.
The inductees are as follows: Mike Walsh, who won 633 games as the Trinity Catholic boys basketball coach, fifth best all time, and seven CIAC state championships. Walsh also won one state title in 2019 with the Trinity Catholic girls team.
Fran Pfeiffer, who coached girls swimming at Lauralton Hall for 24 seasons, winning seven state championships and placing second 10 times. He also coached the sport at Bridgeport Central, winning a combined 250 matches.
Rich Bowen, who coached wrestling at Killingly for 35 years, winning 625 matches and five state championships.
Marty Gomez, who coached baseball at Lyman Memorial for 33 seasons, winning 513 games and 19 league championships. Gomez also was the school’s athletic director for 23 years.
Mark Dunn, who coached track and field for 36 years at Stafford. He also coached cross country and gymnastics and was the athletic director for 17 years.
Susan Hopkins-Terrell, who won seven consecutive state championships in gymnastics at Norwich Free Academy, where she coached for 21 seasons.
August Link, who coaches boys golf at Tolland for 44 seasons and boys soccer for
20 more. Link combined to win 1,072 games/matches, three state championships and 14 league titles.
Richard Rosek, who coached track and field for a combined 39 years at both Middletown and Woodrow Wilson. Rosek won six state championships.
Joe D’Ambrosio, the voice of the UConn Huskies for 26 years on WTIC-1080, in addition to being a sports anchor at both WVIT-30 and FOX-61.
The CHSCA will also recognize Mark Logan (RHAM for track and field, cross country and athletic director) and Len Corto (South Catholic and New Britain, as football coach and athletic director) for being inducted into the NHSACA Hall of Fame, in addition to Tom Murray, who is receiving the NHSACA Distinguished Service Award for his time as Branford boys basketball coach and his contributions to the CHSCA.
