Herman & Marilyn (Devorah) Rubin

-

Herman Rubin, 93, of New Haven, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Born in New Haven on January 16, 1928, son of Morris and Anna Rubin, Herman grew up in the southwest end of New Haven, where he befriended a group of neighbors who later joined the World War II effort. After assisting in the Signal Corps in the post-occupation forces, Herman reunited with his friends. Each year since1947, these veterans, friends and family met for their annual T-Club picnic. Herman was known for community service, teaching children music lessons with the Shoreliners as well as his talent as a radio, television and stereo communications specialist.

Marilyn Desrosiers Rubin, 87, died on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. She did not have a public obituary at that time, so we wish to recognize her death here. Born in Burlington, Vermont on December 9, 1933, she was also raised in New Haven. Daughter of Leo and Marion Desrosiers, Marilyn married Herman on October 19, 1957. She had many positions over the years, yet spent over 26 years facilitating construction around the globe at Subway World Headquarters. Marilyn’s passion for poetry and Judaism pervaded the household and overflowed to Summerwood in West Hartford, where she and Herman relocated for their final years.

Together they raised their daughters in Milford: Judy (Dan) Davidson, Janice Rubin, Michal (John) Rentschler, and Tracy

(Troy) Lumley. We lovingly recognize their honorary fifth daughter Madelene (Jim) Francese (a niece by birth yet promoted with her dedication to family), who supported both Marilyn and Herman at the time of their deaths. Marilyn’s brother Ed (Barbara) Desrosiers currently resides in Southington. Herman and Marilyn are survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Herman will be laid to rest next to Marilyn at a graveside service on Monday October 18, 11:00am at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 250 Reid St, Fairfield, Connecticut.

A small gathering to follow will be announced graveside.

Please contact the family directly for online Shivah zoom evite for Sunday October 17, 6pm EST.
