Queens woman killed in four-car pileup on Route 8 in Bridgeport

Tiffany Benjamin was driving her Nissan Altima south in the right lane when her car was struck from behind by a Toyota Camry, which struck a Kia Cadenza in the right lane. The Altima collided with another Toyota in the left lane.

BRIDGEPORT — A New York woman was killed and two other people were hospitaliz­ed Friday after a four-car pileup on Route 8, according to Connecticu­t State Police.

State police identified the woman who died as 37year-old Tiffany Benjamin. She was a resident of the Far Rockaway neighborho­od of Queens.

Around 1:23 p.m., Benjamin was driving her Nissan Altima south in the right lane when her car was struck from behind by a Toyota Camry, state police said through a news release. The collision caused a domino effect as both cars began to rotate.

The Camry struck the passenger side of a Kia Cadenza also traveling the right lane, pushing the car into the metal guardrail. Meanwhile, the Altima collided with the back of another Toyota that was in the left lane, state police said.

The driver of the Kia was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for minor injuries, while a passenger in the Camry was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for minor injuries.

Benjamin was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
