Elicker, Carlson set to meet in mayoral debate
NEW HAVEN — Mayoral candidates Justin Elicker and John Carlson will meet in their first debate at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School.
The debate, sponsored by The Democracy Fund, the New Haven Independent and La Voz Hispana, will be open to the first 90 members of the public who show up. It is open only to candidates who have qualified for public funding through The Democracy Fund.
Because of the pandemic, seating is limited, organizers said.
Attendees must wear a mask and either show proof of having received a COVID-19 vaccination or the results of a negative rapid test done within the past 48 hours, organizers said. The school is at the corner of College and Crown streets.
The debate also will be livestreamed at WTNH.com and the New Haven Independent Facebook page.
Questions will come from a panel that will include retired New Haven Register reporter Mary O’Leary, La Voz Hispana Publisher Norma Rodriguez Reyes, radio journalist Michelle Turner of WSME radio, WTNH TV Chief Political Correspondent
Jodi Latina and New Haven Independent Editor Paul Bass, said Bass.
Bass will serve as moderator, he said.
