Diane Meier Cadwell March 4, 1950 - October 12, 2021
Diane Meier Cadwell, 71, lifelong resident of West Haven, succumbed to a hard-fought battle with multiple illnesses on October 12, 2021. She was born March 4, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter of the late Jeanette and Richard Meier. She was the second of their three children. She grew up in the Allingtown section of West Haven. In the early part of the 1970’s she and her husband owned and ran T & M Luncheonette, a popular breakfast and lunch spot, on 1st Ave. in West Haven. Later, she worked as a secretary in the rental office of Meadowbrook Apartments where her father was the head superintendent. In the 1980’s she was the office manager for TrueGreen Chemlawn and then managed Absolute Answering Service on California St. in West Haven. In the 1990’s she moved on to start her own residential and commercial cleaning business, White Gloves Cleaning Service, from which she ultimately retired, much to the dismay of her clients.
She is survived by her two children John Muccio of Branford and Dani Muccio of Bay Shore, NY; her three grandsons Dustin, Matthew, and Michael MuccioSchrimpe of Farmingdale, NY; her two siblings Richard Meier of Hamden and Lynn Ferrioulo of Trumbull; three nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband and best friend, Danny Muccio of New Haven. Diane was a caring and giving person to all that crossed her path. She was known for having an open door any time of day or night, literally and figuratively. She never locked her doors, much to the chagrin of her family. It was a regular occurrence for her to invite acquaintances for holiday dinners if she was aware that they’d be spending the holiday alone. No one loved Christmas more than she did and it showed with every corner of the house looking like something out of Harrow’s showroom. Whenever she heard of anyone in the area suffering a hardship, she’d be the first to offer to cook meals, babysit, or help out in any way she could. In her later years she found technology as a way to extend her reach. She took to Facebook, reconnected with old friends, and made innumerable new ones that became “real life” friends who turned out to be priceless helping hands as her health declined. She also found Facebook Marketplace as an avenue to add to her beloved collections and somehow managed to get sellers to deliver things to her. Her family is now left with more bird cages and wicker decor than they know what to do with. When she wasn’t doing word puzzles or playing Yahtzee, her favorite pastime was bragging about her children and grandchildren to anyone that would listen. She left everyone thinking that they were all Nobel Peace Prize recipients and destined for sainthood. Her family would like to thank everyone that listened to her endless bragging but mostly for showing her care and compassion when she needed it most.
