Man charged in connection with double-shooting

HAMDEN — A town man recently was arrested and charged in connection with a double-shooting on Dixwell Avenue in May, according to police.

Michael Wooten, 23, is charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerme­nt and illegal discharge of a firearm, Detective Sean Dolan said in an email.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Dixwell Avenue for a report of shots fired soon after midnight May 15, Dolan said, finding two wounded individual­s.

“Officers located a 20year-old New Haven resident in the vicinity of Dixwell Avenue and Pershing Street. She was suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest. A second victim, a 22-year-old Hamden resident, was shot multiple times and suffered injuries to his buttocks, hand and pelvis,” said Dolan.

Both wounded individual­s were hospitaliz­ed and treated for “serious” injuries, Dolan said.

Detective Jomo Crawford, along with the New Haven Shooting Task Force, has investigat­ed the case to date, Dolan said. The investigat­ion remains ongoing.
