Dudley Farm Museum hosting Harvest Day
GUILFORD — Harvest Day activities will return to the grounds of the Dudley Farm Museum later this month.
The event will take place Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2351 Durham Road.
After being canceled in 2020, the Dudley Foundation has resumed this day of activities, which, for children, will include a variety of 19th-century games, face painting by “Z” Art from Madison, a paintyour-own pumpkins activity, toss games, and a play box filled with corn kernels and toys, according to a press release.
Children will also be able to participate and learn about laundering, a central element during colonial times on the farm, the organization said. The museum’s antique tractor will be on display for picture taking and exploring.
There will be a variety of demonstrations, including learning the basics of blacksmithing, corn shelling and grinding accomplished by antique farm equipment, popcorn and sauerkraut making.
The farm’s animals include sheep, chickens and two visiting donkeys. After the corn-grinding demo, children will be able to feed the finished product to the chickens.
There will be a lace making demonstration on the porch of the museum, along with music and the weekly farmers’ market, with items for purchase along with several demonstrations by the vendors.
Tours of the museum and the Native American Museum will also be conducted.
