* The Cheshire High School Girls Swim and Dive held a sneaker drive fundraiser event through the month of September. For this project, Cheshire’s Laura Squillante was assisted by junior athletes and parents, Cheshire’s Rosanne Tejeda, Principal Dr. Mary Gadd and CHS staff, Superinten­dent of Schools Jeffrey Solan, and community partners, according to a story in the Cheshire Herald. Junior swimmers Vanessa Squillante and Somya Gulati have taken leadership roles with the drive. The Rams earned funds based on the total amount of sneakers collected. Proceeds were used to support Senior Night on

Oct. 17.

* Eighty students from Eastern Connecticu­t State University received their undergradu­ate diplomas in summer 2021. Local students were among the graduates. Hamden: Kyle Goodwin graduated with a bachelor of general studies in General Studies. Ryan Jackson graduated with a bachelor of science in Psychology. Symone O'Hara graduated with a bachelor of arts in Women's and Gender Studies. Michael Tyler graduated with a bachelor of arts in History.

New Haven: Chol Malak graduated with a bachelor of arts in Political Science. Luis Rodriguez graduated with a bachelor of arts in Political Science.

West Haven: Jaime Edwards graduated with a bachelor of arts in Social Work. Mahmoud Hal houssine graduated with a bachelor of science in Business Informatio­n Systems.

* Tarris Murphy of Hamden was inducted into the University of Maryland Global Campus chapter of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic discipline­s. Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students and 7.5 percent of juniors.
