Barbara May (Nann) Natusch
Barbara May (Nann) Natusch, 94, a longtime resident of Northford, passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2022. She was predeceased by her loving husband and partner of more than 70 years, Curt A. Natusch. Barbara was born in New Haven, CT on January 4, 1928 to the late Minnie Josephine (Scranton) and Frank Emil Nann.
She is survived by her nieces Patricia Nann of Guilford, Dorothy (Nann) Grannis, grandnephew Justin Grannis and her sister-inlaw Ethel Nann all of Northford. She was predeceased by her brother Edward (Ted) Nann. In addition she is survived by several of Curt’s nieces and nephews as well as special friends Marjorie Newton of Northford and Janet and Robert Halliday of Stratford.
Barbara graduated Cum Laude from Wheaton College in 1949 earning a BA degree in Psychology and English. Over the years, she worked in several administrative and managerial positions for a variety of businesses. Being an avid reader along with her English degree served her very well both professionally and personally. Her mastery of grammar was evident when she edited many of Curt’s scholarly works. She was as crafty as she was smart and witty. Her knitting and sewing skills were most evident in the sweaters she made and they wore. Her needlepoint creations still hang in their home. Barbara and Curt were “farmers” at heart. They understood the value of “home grown” and had a very large vegetable garden. Their summers and falls were spent growing and then harvesting the crops to can or freeze, sharing much with family and friends and donating to the local food bank. Baking was also a talent of hers. Whether she baked bread or deserts, many were shared and enjoyed with friends.
In addition to being remembered as Curt’s beloved wife, she was a strong and independent woman ahead of her time. She will also be remembered as a best friend and a loyal and caring person to those who knew and loved her.
There are no calling hours and arrangements are private. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to the Edward Smith Library, Northford Connecticut, or to any local food bank.
