Stewart J. Lehman
With his family by his side, Stewart J. Lehman, 76, of Simsbury, passed away on January 23, 2022 after a courageous two-year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Stewart was the beloved husband of 53 years to Phyllis (Klatzkie) Lehman. Stewart was born in New Haven, CT on April 17, 1945 to Belle (Waldman) and Irving Lehman. Growing-up in New Haven, Stewart attended Roger Sherman Elementary School, Troupe Junior High School and then Hillhouse High School. Stewart went on to the University of Connecticut and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. In 1968 after graduation, Stewart began his career at Pratt and Whitney where he worked on the development of the FT-50 gas turbine engine. In 1975, Stewart began working at United Technologies Research Center where he specialized in computer simulation of advanced manufacturing processes. In 1994, Stewart started his own consulting business that helped other companies optimize their manufacturing facilities. Stewart ended his career with Cyient where he focused on cost reduction initiatives associated with the manufacturing and development of various Pratt and Whitney engines. Stewart was a Boston Red Sox and UConn Husky fanatic, but the team he cheered for the hardest was his family. He cherished his roles as a husband to his wife, Phyllis, as a father to David (Jenn), Adam (Janice) and Marc (Jen), as a grandfather to Jack and Cassidy, Ian and Rachael, Alyssa and Harrison, as brother to Leslie Greenstein, as brother-inlaw to Michael and Melanie Klatzkie, Marilyn Kurtz, as uncle to many nieces and nephews and as a friend to so many. Stewart loved traveling (to Aruba and Florida), reading (spy novels), watching sports, playing golf, eating Pepe’s Pizza and following the stock market. Stewart and Phyllis have been long time members of Beth El Temple. A graveside funeral service with Rabbi James Rosen officiating will be held at 11:30 a.m. on January 26, 2022 at The Hartford Mutual Cemetery, 74 Wolcott Road, Simsbury, CT 06070. Due to Covid restrictions, the family will observe a private period of mourning. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association or the Emergency Department at Hartford Hospital. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hong and his entire team at the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute and the nurses on Conklin 2. The care and compassion they showed Stewart during his fight contributed to his optimism throughout his battle. Stewart’s memory will be forever in our hearts.
