- By Liz Hardaway

A New Haven man was sentenced to more than three years in prison after police found firearms and more than 20 grams of crack in his home, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday.

New Haven police on May 10, 2019, searched the home of 43-year-old

Theo Sargent, also known as “Ciph,” 43, based on information obtained from a confidential informant, according to court records.

At the home, police seized three handguns, more than 300 rounds of ammunition, about 20 grams of crack, 17 grams of marijuana, five pills of MDMA, or ecstasy, and items used to process and package narcotics for street sale, according to court records.

Police arrested Sargent with state charges that day, according to Leonard Boyle, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Sargent’s criminal history includes state convictions for felony drug and firearm offenses, making it illegal for him to posses a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce, according to Boyle’s office.

Sargent also previously served a 12-year state sentence, according to court records.

In October 2021, Sargent pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, or crack, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, Boyle’s office said.

A federal judge in Bridgeport Wednesday sentenced Sargent to 33 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Sargent is currently free on a $100,000 bond and is required to report to prison April 20, 2022, according to Boyle’s office .
