Joseph J. Amore

February 15, 1936 ~ March 27, 2022

-

Joseph Amore of New Haven, CT passed into peace on Sunday, March 27, 2022, after a long life and a brief illness. He was 86. The youngest of twelve, Joe grew up on Quinnipiac Avenue, raised by his extraordinary parents Giovanni and Maria LaFemina Amore, and by his many, many older brothers – Vincent ( Jimmy), Al, Frankie, Anthony, Ernie, Michael, Nick, Charlie, and Phil Amore, and his loving sisters Mary Amore Savinelli and Ann Amore Fluter. His family takes great comfort in knowing that the 10 who left this world before him will welcome their baby brother with love and wisdom, there, as always, to guide him on the next part of his journey.

Family was most important to Joe throughout his life, and the 11 nieces and nephews (“The Amore Cousins”) he leaves across Connecticut and 5 other states will continue to carry him in their hearts. The legacy of the Amore family now resides in the last of that greatest generation, his brother Nicholas Amore, 96, of Wallingford, as well as in the genes and Facebook feeds of his 14 great- and 12 great-great-nieces and nephews across the country. We hope that at every holiday table set by these next generations, a place will be set for all the Amores who have gone before them.

Most recently, Joe lived as an active member of the Boardman Residence at Mary Wade Home in New Haven. He was cared for brilliantly by the staff there for six years; the Amore family extends very special thanks to Roseanne Mondrone, Maria Olmo, and Joy Rembert for all your help over those years. There, Joe also met Judy Banyai, his late friend and companion, who gave him great comfort and connection. Prior to moving to Mary Wade, he lived for many years on Roma Street in East Haven, where he was also a fixture at the Dunkin' Donuts on Main St. In his working life, Joe was employed principally by the Knights of Columbus, and by HB Educational in New Haven.

Funeral from MARESCA & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Chapel St. on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions to: Mary Wade Home, 118 Clinton Ave., New Haven, CT 06513.
