Stamford Stop & Shop property sold, but supermarket to remain
STAMFORD — The site of a Stop & Shop grocery store on the city’s West Side has sold for approximately $47 million, but the supermarket is staying put.
“Stop & Shop does not anticipate any impact to the Stamford store,” the company said in a statement.
The store, located at 1937 W. Main St., opened in
2006 and employs nearly 90 associates.
The sale of the approximately 83,000-square-foot property was recorded by the Stamford Town Clerk’s Office. It generated local conveyance taxes of $231,750 and state conveyance taxes of $583,125.
The property was sold by Queens, N.Y.-based Vinayaka Realty LLC to Berwyn, Pa.-based NWDF Owner LLC, according to the property records. The listed address for NWDF is the same as that of Zeke Capital Advisors, a multifamily office. A message left for Zeke Capital was not immediately returned on Thursday.
Vinayaka had acquired the property for about $45 million in 2016.
The West Side neighborhood that includes the Stop & Shop has seen significant development in recent years. A Home Depot store opened in 2018 at 1925 W. Main, on a lot adjacent to the Stop & Shop site. Also in 2018, a CVS Pharmacy store opened across the street at 1938 W. Main. Last year saw the debut of a Wendy’s restaurant at 1934 W. Main, next to CVS.
Within Stamford, Stop & Shop also has a store at 2200 Bedford St., about two miles northeast of the West Main Street location.
