Virginia S. Iovanne, 85, of East Haven, beloved and cherished wife of the late Charles A. Iovanne, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2022. Virginia, daughter of the late Giovanni and Rose Grande Santanello, was born in

New Haven on October 21, 1936. She leaves behind her adoring children, Jennifer G. Iovanne of East Haven and Nicholas C. Iovanne of Branford. She was a sister to John Santanello, the late Concetta Carlson, Genevieve Smith, Carmel Nuzzo, and Grace, Charles, Joseph, and Frank Santanello. She was a longtime employee of SNET where she worked as an early computer programmer and later worked at Montowese Food Center as a deli clerk.

Virginia’s greatest joys came from her close family and her beloved neighbors, Nancy, Claudia, and Joanna, all of whom she loved dearly, and she devoted her life to ensuring their happiness. Virginia’s life pleasures included caring for her pets, reading the newspaper and magazines, gardening, visiting with her sisters and brothers and other family, Saturday coffee excursions with her daughter, Sunday dinners with her son, drinking expresso, eating ice cream, decorating, baking, cooking, watching classic movies, shopping, crocheting, crafting, house and yard care, and having coffee with friends, neighbors, and family.

Her daughter and son would like to give special thanks to Rosemary and Maya for their loving and attentive care over the past year. And they would also like to extend their gratitude to her Masonicare Hospice nurses, Susan and Hope, for their responsive and passionate safekeepin­g as well as to the doctors and staff at Northeast Medical Group in Branford and Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry in Hamden.

Visiting hours will be Saturday morning from 8:30-9:30 in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place, New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael Church at 10:00am.
