Lee a true team player in the water for Hand

MADISON — Elliot Lee felt at home the first time he hit the water. He was 4 years old. Mom and dad wanted him to learn to swim. He didn’t look for his folks to come in and save him.

It was at age 8 when Lee realized how difficult his undertakin­g had become.

“Kids were swimming so many more laps than I was able to do,” Lee said. “They were going really fast. I thought I would never be able to catch up. Once I got into the flow everything smoothed out.”

The State Open champ in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle as a sophomore at Daniel Hand, Lee was first in Class M as well. He added a gold medal in the 400-freestyle relay. The school record holder in the 200 medley relay, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay, Lee won SCC titles in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

It was easier for Lee to choose an event he doesn’t care for them to pick a favorite.

“There are a couple of events I don’t like and try to avoid,” said the National Interschol­astic Swimming Coaches Associatio­n All American. “In high school it’s the 500-freestyle. That’s a lot of
