It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Jane Giovannina Vena Cannici, a beloved mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother. Jane entered her eternal rest on May 8th, 2022. She was 92 years old. Jane was a cherished mother to Joanne ( James) McKinnon of East Hampton and Gail ( James) Catania-Lewis of Orange; beloved grandmother to Melissa Lewis, James McKinnon IV, Christine (Argelio) Marrero, Jennifer Jay, and Matthew ( Jennifer) McKinnon; great-grandmother to Alexis Catania, Gianna Catania, Hayden Marrero, Josslyn Marrero, Joseph Jay and Nathan Jay. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Jane’s parents and oldest sister, Mary, traveled through Ellis Island from the Province of Avellino, Italy, and settled in New Haven, CT, where Jane and her three sisters grew up. She was born on September 13th, 1929, daughter of the late Ceriaco and Treasa Vena. Jane met the love of her life at a dance, the late Frank V. Cannici, and the two were married for 46 years. Shortly after, Frank and Jane set out to West Haven, CT to build their home from the ground up and start a family. She worked at the New Haven Savings Bank as a teller for many years where she was very well-known. When she lived at home, Jane loved to play Bingo at the senior center, go out to eat with her friends, go to the movies, and take walks with her dearest friend, (predeceased) Diana Catania-Presnick, on the West Haven pier. In addition to her parents and her husband, she is also predeceased by her sisters, Mary Calabrese, Martha Serino, Adeline Barbiero; niece, Gloria Amendola; granddaughter, Michelle McKinnon; and grandson, DJ Catania. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to all her caregivers and staff at Seacrest Retirement Home who aided in her care for the past six years.
