Bull, Law take down Amity to clinch SCC Housy title

- By Mike Madera

MILFORD — With the Southern Connecticut Conference Housatonic division title on the line, the Jonathan Law softball team knew it had to get by Amity to accomplish this goal. Having already defeated the Spartans earlier in the season, Law knew it was not going to be an easy task.

Freshman pitcher Madyson Bull made sure the task was a bit easier than expected.

Keeping Amity off balance from the pitching circle and adding three hits and three RBIs,

Bull led Law to an 11-3 victory on Monday to clinch the division's regular-season title.

“Amity is a perennial powerhouse year in and year out, so you can't come into a game, especially after beating them once, and expect that this is going to happen,” Law coach Melanie Blude said after her team improved to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in the division. “Our girls just play. We have hitters throughout the lineup and there is never a dead spot at any point with anyone up.”

Law broke the contest open with three runs in the fourth and six more in the sixth.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, Amity cut the deficit in half when leadoff hitter Kylee Mclain ripped a long home run to left center. The Spartans never got any closer.

With one out in the fourth, Law's Courtney Hanson singled, Hailey Oliver doubled, and Hanson scored on a passed ball to increase the lead to 3-1. After Grace Hess walked to put runners on the corners, an error scored Oliver, before Bull singled with two outs to score pinchrunner Macie Rascoll for a 5-1 lead.

“We worked really hard for this game,” Bull said. “This is pretty big for us. It is getting us ready for states. We are taking it one game at a time.”

Amity then got within 5-2 in the sixth as Grace Carrington started a two-out rally with a single and scored on a double to right by Maus.

“I am happy with six of the seven innings we played today,” Amity coach Amanda Acampora said after her team fell to 10-3. “We held them a lot closer than we did last time. She (Bull) throws the ball hard on the mound. She moves the ball in and out. There was one inning where you could see our youth and where we struggled.

“I am happy with the adjust
