Dr. Mitchell A. Beck

Dr. Mitchell A. Beck “Mitch” passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, from complications of Covid at Midstate Medical Center on May 8, 2022. He was born on October 2, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Bernard and Ida (Kravis) Beck. Predeceased by his first wife, Carol “Jeannie” Beck, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife, Marla (Steinbach) Beck; his son, Benjamin (Sarah) Beck; his daughter, Michele “Shelly” (Todd) Rudoy; his stepdaughter, Michelle (Brian) Lakin; and his beloved brother, Dr. Brian (Anne) Beck. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, James, Craig, and Zachary Beck, Jordan and Dylan Rudoy; and 3 stepgrandchildren, Shayna, Jacob, and Aaron Lakin.
Mitch received his Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Eastern Michigan University and his doctorate from Wayne State University. During his lengthy career in the field of Special Education, he taught emotionally disturbed youth, ran both a day treatment program and a residential facility, and served as a Professor at various colleges. He concluded his career as a Professor and Chair of the Special Education Department at Central Connecticut State University where he earned the title of Professor Emeritus. Mitch lived life to the fullest and loved racquetball, bowling, working out, teaching, reading, dog-sledding, traveling, and volunteering in Israel, but his greatest passion was his family. We were all blessed to have him in our lives.
Funeral Services will be held at Temple Beth Sholom,1809 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on THURSDAY morning May 12th at 10:30. All are asked to wear masks. Burial will be in the Beth Sholom sec of Walnut Grove Cemetery, 817 Old Colony Rd. Meriden. Shiva will be Observed at 25 Hamden
Hills Dr. Unit 19, Hamden on Thursday 6-8:30 p.m., Saturday from 8:30-10 p.m., and Sunday from 6-8:30 p.m.
