COVID hospitalizations in Connecticut continue to rise through weekend
As the nation hit a grim milestone last week, Connecticut reported more than 330 patients in state hospitals Monday with COVID-19, the latest figures show.
President Joe Biden announced 1 million COVID deaths Thursday, a little more than two years since the pandemic began.
More than 10,000 of those came from Connecticut, and 25 were from just earlier this month, according to state data from May 11.
Of the 84,626 COVID tests administered this past week, 11,044 came out positive, garnering a 13.05 percent positivity rate. This is a slight decrease from Friday’s reported 13.71 percent, according to state data.
As of Monday, 331 patients were hospitalized with the virus, 55 more than the previous week. Of the 331 patients, 104 are not fully vaccinated, according to state data.
However, officials have acknowledged that this data is a “vast underestimate” as two omicron subvariants spread around.
Just last month, Connecticut’s positvity rate was more than cut in half at 6.51 percent.
Since Friday, six of Connecticut’s eight counties had high transmission levels, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.
As a precaution, Stamford city officials urged residents to consider wearing masks again and using other prevention strategies. The CDC recommends residents in counties with high transmission levels — including New Haven, Litchfield, Hartford, Middlesex, Tolland and Windham counties — to wear masks.
