Wake Forest, North Florida tied for the lead at regional

Wake Forest and North Florida share the lead after the first round of the NCAA Division I men’s golf New Haven Regional at the Yale Golf Course on Monday.

Wake Forest, the ACC tournament champion, and North Florida, the Atlantic Sun champion, both shot 13-under-par 267. Georgia Southern is in third place at 10-under 270, followed by Texas Tech (271). North Carolina, the top seed at the regional, and Illinois (273) are tied for fifth.

The top five teams after the 54-hole event advance to the national championsh­ip. Yale is 13th in the 14-team regional after posting a 6-over 286. Sacred Heart is 14th (309).

Piewrcen Hunt from Illinois shot a 6-under 64 to lead after the opening round. Ryan Gerard (North Carolina), Mason Williams (Georgia Southern), Brandon Mancheno (North Florida) and Ludvig Aberg (Texas Tech) are all tied for second after shooting 65,

Darren Lin led Yale with a 69.
