New Haven man charged in fatal Hamden shooting

HAMDEN — Police Thursday charged a New Haven teenager in the slaying of , the Police Department announced.

ReddickStr­eater was killed in a driveby shooting in Hamden last May in the parking lot of the Minute Mart on Circular Avenue. Reddick-Streater, 18, of Hamden, was rushed to the hospital and later died from his injuries, police said.

Police allegedly determined through an “extensive investigat­ion” that the suspect, 18-year-old Lamont Quadir Smith-Reed, had targeted ReddickStr­eater.

Smith-Reed is charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He was held in lieu of $2 million bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden May 27.

At the time of his arrest, Smith-Reed was in custody at the Department of Correction on unrelated charges.

Reddick-Streater was a senior at ACES Whitney North High School at the time of his death, and was excited to attend his upcoming graduation with his baby girl, his family said at the time. Those who knew Reddick-Streater, nicknamed “Maji,” described him as kindhearte­d, caring, respectful and extraordin­arily lovable.
