SHELTON — It is official. Ben McGorty will be seeking his fifth term serving the 122nd House District.

McGorty was endorsed last week by Republicans in the district, which covers portions of Shelton, Trumbull, and Stratford, during the party convention at Ari Bella Restaurant in Shelton.

“I am honored to have received the nomination from the three towns that I proudly represent,” said McGorty, who was first elected in a special election in the summer of 2014 and was subsequently elected to a full term that November.

“I have a great working relationship with the mayors of each town and have worked diligently on getting state grants to fund projects in all three towns,” McGorty added. “I have and I will continue to work hard in Hartford for the betterment of Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull.”

He is being challenged in November by Democrat Frank Donato.

McGorty said the past two years have been challenging times for the residents of Connecticut, but he has joined fellow Republicans in passing legislation to help businesses survive through the pandemic.

“I want to return to Hartford to continue my efforts to make Connecticut affordable for all to live and find work here, and for seniors who have worked their whole lives in the state to retire here,” McGorty added.

McGorty, a lieutenant/deputy fire marshal for the Town of Stratford, has more than 30 years as a volunteer firefighter with the Huntington Fire Department and serves on Shelton’s Board of Fire Commissioners. He is also a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker.

McGorty was nominated for reelection by Shelton Board of Alderman President John Anglace, with a second by Don Stanziale in the convention chaired by Jim Feehan.

The convention included delegates from each town in the 122nd District proportional to the population of the town represented by it — seven from Shelton, two from Stratford and one from Trumbull.

McGorty, assistant Republican leader, currently serves on the legislature’s Public Safety and Security, Banking and Regulation Review committees. He lives in Shelton with his wife, Noreen, a former longtime Shelton alderman.
