Carfora must do better for people of East Haven

Mayor Carfora is now crying foul concerning a last minute Tweed Airport lease document dump; what has he been doing for the last two years? I know, flip-flopping. First he said he was for the expansion, even though the rest us of knew what exactly it would bring — more traffic on already-congested roadways, not enough economic incentives to make the expansion worthwhile to East Haven, destruction of wetlands, deterioration of quality of life. Fast-forward a year, all of a sudden the mayor realized what we had already, and that an expansion would not benefit East Haven at all.

We all knew what was coming down the pike, why didn’t he? Instead of hiring legal counsel with aviation experience at the onset, he waited until the lease was just about finalized to begin that process. He has been reactive instead of proactive. He hasn’t held a public meeting to hear from his constituents. The only meeting was one at which questions could not be addressed. How transparent is that, not very.

Is Mayor Carfora really advocating for his town? Is he negotiating for more homes be fitted with soundproofing and better ventilation systems? Is he negotiating to make sure the environment is protected, that our very important wetlands, vegetation, and living organisms will not be harmed? We don’t know because not one public meeting has been held to tell the voters of East Haven how he is going to make sure the expansion will not be done on the backs of the citizens of

East Haven.

It took average citizens publicly pushing the Mayor for him to appoint new members to the Tweed New Haven Airport Commission; this is neither transparency nor good stewardship.

Mayor Carfora was elected to take care of East Haven, and to make sure no harm comes to its citizens, but he is failing us all. He said he would make sure

East Haven had a seat at the table and that he would have our backs. When will that happen?
