Salvatore V. Gullo, 92, of West Haven, died on August 28, 2022. Born in New Haven on July 11, 1930, a son of the late Vincent and Yolanda (Sacco) Gullo. Survived by sons, Robert (Eileen) Gullo of Northford, Vincent (Barbara) Gullo of West Haven, and Dee (Cheryl) Gullo of Pawleys Island, SC; brother, Richard Gullo of West Haven; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; as well as many friends. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa (Lonetti) Gullo; and sister, Ann Gilman.

In July of 1948, Sal entered the United States Navy and served during the Korean War as an aircraft engine mechanic. In 1953 he married Theresa, the great love of his life, and they shared over thirty-five wonderful years together. Upon his return from the war, Sal and his brother, Richie, opened the Gullo’s Texaco Service Station on Savin Rock, whereby he parlayed his mechanical skills from airplanes to automobiles. After the sale of his business, he enjoyed many years as a salesperson for Rockland Auto Parts. An avid boater and fisher, Sal could always be found cruising the open water on the “Terri G” or docked and visiting his friends at City Point Yacht Club, where he was a lifetime member. Sal was an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary of New Haven, and was proud to teach boating and safety courses for many years. His greatest enjoyment was that of spending time with his family, chiefly, his annual preparation of the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes. He took immense pride in this activity, and the greatest gift he received was that of being surrounded by his growing family. He will be missed by all those he leaves behind.

Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 1st, from 9am to 10:30am. His funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 10:45am, whereby a graveside service will commence at 11 o’clock in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Full military honors will be rendered.
