Dana Layman MacKenzie

November 8, 1962 - September 2, 2022

Dana Layman MacKenzie, 59, of Otis, MA, formerly of East Haven, passed away peacefully with her loving husband and best friend, Kenneth H. MacKenzie, by her side on September 2, 2022 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Mother of the late Brett R. Peck. Sister of Tammy Gunning of Watertown and Wendy (William) McCloskey of Somers. Dana was born in Stafford Springs on November 8, 1962, daughter of Francis and Jeanne Hanson Layman of Smyrna Beach, FL. At the time of her death, Dana was the president of MacKenzie Machine Inc. Dana will be remembered by her infectious laughter and the ability to light up any room by just walking in. Through BRP, the foundation she created in memory of her son, Brett, Dana changed the lives of many, giving them the opportunity to fulfill their lifetime dreams. It has been said, “It only takes one person, just one person truly can make a difference to make this world a better place,” and that one person for so many was Dana. Dana was also an avid animal lover; she had a soft spot for the Labrador breed. Many lucky pups graced her home. Her current pups, Wylie Blue and Finlay, will also miss her snuggles. Dana also leaves behind her loving nieces and nephews whom she loved and treated as they were her own children, always looking out for their welfare and to lend a hand when needed; something each one of them will be eternally grateful for. Heaven gained the most beautiful angel. The family of Dana MacKenzie would like to thank the Smilow Cancer Center and the Hospice staff that took great care of Dana during her illness.

Family and friends are invited to a parlor service in the Porto Funeral Home, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven, Saturday morning at 11:00. Interment will be Private.
