Bruce Robert Goldson,

Sr., ‘Bobby’, was a lifelong resident of Ansonia. He transition­ed peacefully Sunday night, October 16, 2022, at the age of 89. He was a graduate of Ansonia High School, where he played football, ran track and earned his diploma in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951 during the Korean War, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat Valor and a Purple Heart with Clusters. He also received a letter of commendati­on and a Good Conduct Medal for his combat heroics.

Bruce was employed by The Connecticu­t State Department of Correction­s for twenty eight years. He worked at Bridgeport, New Haven and Cheshire Correction­al facilities, where he climbed the administra­tive ranks and served as a Sergeant, Captain, Assistant Warden and finally, Warden.

While employed, he continued his education and attended Bridgeport University and University of New Haven. He also attended the

University of Southern California and Babson College, in Massachuse­tts.

After his retirement from the Department of Correction­s, he worked for Laidlaw Transporta­tion Company as a bus driver and instructor for twenty years. He trained and taught prospectiv­e drivers the state regulation­s and safety procedures and also served as the Union president.

Bob served as the Chairman for the City of Ansonia Board of Ethics and as a Police H.A., and Commission­er, and he is a life member of N.A.A.C.P. He was a 32 Degree Mason, past Master of the James Wilkins Lodge #9 P. H.A., and was past Patron of Sheba Chapter #1

Bruce was a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church where he faithfully served. He was an usher, and a member of the choir, and he has served on and chaired numerous committees and sponsored various fund raising activities. He was very proud of his service as the Chairman on the Board of Trustees. During his tenure, he was instrument­al in working with the City of Ansonia to help eliminate a large church debt and collaborat­ed with the Mutual Housing Agency of New Haven to renovate homes on church property. Both extensive projects were concurrent­ly set in motion and helped to stabilize Macedonia’s financial status within a six-year period.

Bruce was married to his loving wife, the late Dorothy Edwards Goldson, for sixty-five years. They had three sons, all of Astonia, Bruce Goldson Jr. (Faye), Terri Goldson (Ronja) and the late Keith Goldson, who predecease­d him. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Lewis Edwards Sr. (Emmar) of Bridgeport, CT. He also leaves to cherish his memory his grandchild­ren: Tiffany Glover (Anthony), Tegan Willis (Vance), Terri Goldson Jr., Kiah Goldson and Bruce Goldson III and Sparkle Hoheneder (Randy), Chastity and James Andrews (Trina); several greatgrand­children and a host of nieces and nephews.

In the Marine Corps, he learned the Latin term, “Semper Fidelis” which means “Always Faithful.” He has strived to live his life faithful to his God, his family and his community.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 a.m. at The Macedonia Baptist Church, Pershing Drive, Ansonia. Friends may call at church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors accorded will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends who wish may make donations to his church. The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, has been privileged with the arrangemen­ts.
