Vote Green in Third District

Almost all Democrats claim to oppose or resist the policies of the past president Donald J. Trump; certainly the Biden Administration makes this claim. Unfortunately however, on many issues Biden follows Trump’s lead: in the domain of foreign policy, for example, the unjust, illegal sanctions against sovereign nations in the Americas, namely Cuba, Venezuela and Bolivia. Also, Biden has not rejoined the agreement with Iran that ex-President Trump so unwisely abrogated that limited that nation’s development of nuclear weapons.

On the domestic side there are fewer examples of Biden’s following Trump’s policies. One egregious example, though, is the ongoing attempt to privatize parts of Medicare, the tax-supported medical insurance for retirees. The Congressional Progressive Caucus has called on the Biden administration to “Protect seniors’ ability to manage their own care in traditional Medicare by quickly transitioning away from the [Trump-initiated] program, which allows third-party middlemen to manage care without seniors’ full understanding or prior consent, and often through for-profit businesses with incentives to restrict care.” Rosa DeLauro’s congressional website mentions the concern for “protecting Medicare” but doesn’t indicate what DeLauro has been doing to that end. As the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and the chairman of the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee, she has the leverage to put an end to this privatization effort. Yet her office seems unable or unwilling to give a focused response on this issue (I expect if I were a CEO of a military contractor, the response would have been more reassuring).

We need a representative who is more responsive to constituent concerns about the privatization/demolition of Medicare.
