Serial burglar suspected in June break-in arrested, police say
NORTH HAVEN — A suspect in multiple area burglaries was arrested Monday in connection with a local break-in, according to local police.
Xuanting Yan, 38, of Hamden, was charged with third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny, North Haven police said. He was held on $75,000 bond and will be or has been transported to state Superior Court in Meriden, police said.
North Haven officers responded to a Lynette Drive home on June 18, 2022, for a report of a burglary, according to police. Investigators determined the perpetrator had used a recycling bin to climb through a first-floor window, police said. Once inside, police said, he or she then forced entry through several locked doors in the home.
Patrol officers interviewed witnesses and canvassed the surrounding area, according to police. Detectives investigating the burglary noted it bore similar characteristics to others reported in and around North Haven and collaborated with neighboring agencies to share information.
Law enforcement identified Yan as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody Monday morning.
Yan was apparently arrested by North Haven officers in August in connection with a May break-in, according to police. He was charged with seconddegree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, payment card theft and illegal use of credit cards and held on $50,000 bond for those offenses, police said.
“Yan has additional warrants from neighboring towns for similar crimes and is a suspect in multiple residential and commercial burglaries in the area,” police said at the time.
