Connecticut organizations to receive $379,000 in NEA grants
As part of its first round of 2023 grants, The National Endowment for the Arts has announced that 18 different organizations in Connecticut will split $279,000 in grants. In total, $34 million in grants have been given by the foundation nationwide during this first round of grants.
“Together, these grants show the NEA’s support nationwide for strengthening our arts and cultural ecosystems, providing equitable opportunities for arts participation and practice, and contributing to the health of our communities and our economy,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, in a press release.
“I encourage everyone to explore these projects and the ways they help provide inspiration, understanding and opportunities for us to live more artful lives.”
The list of grants are broken up into four different categories: Grants for arts projects, literature fellowships, research awards and “Challenge America,” which focuses on funding artistic disciplines in underserved communities.
The largest grant in Connecticut was a $30,00 arts projects grant for Yale University on the behalf of the Yale Repertory Theatre.
According to the NEA, 340 “expert reviewers with relevant knowledge and experience” went through the applications and made recommendations to the National Council on the Arts for its final decision on recipients. Grants range from $10,000 to
$100,000.
The following deadlines are for the next round of grant applications through the NEA: Feb. 9 and July 6 (arts projects), March 8 (literature fellowships), March 27 (research awards) and April 27 (Challenge America).
