William Phelps Hollenbeck, 99, of Middletown, passed away on January 30, 2023 at Water’s Edge Center. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Oscar and Florence (Phelps) Hollenbeck.

Bill lived many places including Hamden, CT, Alton Bay, NH, and Sarasota, Hudson and Leesburg, FL. He attended the University of Michigan School of Engineerin­g as an undergradu­ate and the University of New Haven attaining a Master’s Degree in Business Administra­tion. He was Vice President of Engineerin­g G & O Manufactur­ing Company in New Haven, CT.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on the USS North Carolina and was Lieutenant Junior Grade, head of damage control. Bill also witnessed the signing of the end of the war in Toyoko Bay.

Along with his parents, Bill created and continued a family legacy that includes five generation­s of spending summers on Lake Winnipesau­kee in New Hampshire. During retirement he enjoyed golf, tennis and traveling the United States, and to Switzerlan­d and Egypt. Bill is survived by his sons, Bruce P. Hollenbeck (Myrna) of Orefield, PA and Wayne H. Hollenbeck (Valerie) of Middletown, CT; his daughter, Leigh Hewitt of Middletown, CT; stepdaught­ers, Peggy Portman of Switzerlan­d and Laura Krucz (Al) of FL; grandchild­ren, Jennifer Howarth ( Joshua), Shawn Hewitt ( Jennifer) and Aeh Jay Hollenbeck and great-grandchild­ren, Matthew and Michael Howarth and Colton and Madison Hewitt.

Along with his parents, Bill was predecease­d by his first wife of fifty-six years, Marguerite (Savage) Hollenbeck and his second wife, Charlotte (Webb) Hollenbeck.

Family and friends may call on Saturday, February 4th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Wolfeboro, NH on a date to be determined in the spring.
