Mary (Carotenuto) Warecke, 97, of Fairfield, entered eternal rest peacefully on Friday, January 27th at The Carolton Nursing Home in Fairfield, CT. Mary formerly resided at Wesley Heights in Shelton, CT and before that in Southbury, CT with her son and family for 11 years. She lived in Ocala, FL for 16 years following her husband Val’s retirement and Shelton, CT for most of her life. She was born in Derby, CT on December 27th, 1925, the youngest of 8 children of the late Ralph and Maria (Cavallaro) Carotenuto.

Mary was predecease­d by her loving husband of 67 years, Vladimer (Val) Warecke; and is survived by her two children, son Frank Warecke, Sr. and his wife Lynn of Sebastian, FL and her daughter Hilda Layok and her husband John of Durham, NC. She also leaves seven grandchild­ren, Frank Warecke, Jr. and his fiancé Siobhan Darcy of Seymour, CT, Michael Warecke and his wife Kimberly of Old Lyme, CT, Sean Warecke and his wife Maureen of Penrose, NC, Emily Bleau and husband Joshua of Durham, NC, Gregory Layok and his wife Kimberly of Chicago, IL, Rachel Chiappa of Seymour, CT, and Jason Chiappa of Norman, OK. She also leaves five great-grandchild­ren, Jordan Warecke, Riley Warecke, Samantha Kowal Warecke, Lily Warecke, Mila Rose Layok and many nieces and nephews.

She was predecease­d by all her siblings: Frank Carotenuto, Dominic Carotenuto, Pat Carotenuto, Carmen Carotenuto, Josephine Ambrose, Ann Federico, and Lily Sharkey.

Mary will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, grandmothe­r and aunt. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and love for St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford where she was a parish member while living in Southbury.

The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers at the Carolton for their profession­al and loving care that they gave to their mom over the past few years.

Funeral services will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church, 50 Donovan Lane Shelton, CT on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at 10:30AM for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Mount St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. There will be no calling hours. The family will greet family and friends at the Church.
