Athanasios, Arthur, Pappas, 80, of Branford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28th, at home surrounded by his family. Art was born in New Haven, CT on June 29, 1942, and was the son of the late John and Calliope Katsos Pappas. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Kristine Anton Pappas. It was a marriage full of love and playful affection from the very beginning.

His family and friends will always remember his sparkling blue eyes and dynamite smile.

Art was a loving father to Elaine (Stuart) Johnson and Kellie Pappas both of Branford. A dedicated family business man, he instilled an entreprene­urial spirit in both of his daughters.

He is also survived by two grandchild­ren, Nicholas and Zoe Johnson, his brother Harry (Pat) Pappas, brother-in-law, John (Barbara) Anton and predecease­d by his sister Mary (Alex) Alexiades. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Art worked in the family Dry Cleaning business, Washington Cleaners, with his father and brother until his retirement. He was an active member of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church in Orange where he was an Emeritus member of the Endowment Fund Committee, but his favorite position was Athletic Director, where he interacted with the community youth and forged life long friendship­s. Art was also on the Board of Directors for the Greater New Haven Transit Authority. He was an avid sports fan, most notably the New York Yankees an the UCONN men and women’s basketball teams.

Friends may pay their final respects during visiting hours at Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, Connecticu­t, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., on Saturday, February 11, 2023 followed by the funeral service beginning at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made, in his name, to St Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange, CT 06477.
