Dr. Humbert Michael Fiskio

Dr. H. Michael (Mike) Fiskio died on January 27, 2023, at the age of 87, at home with his loving wife by his side. He was born in New Haven, CT on November 20, 1935, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Peter Fiskio, Sr. (Rose Esposito).

He is survived by his wife Virginia (nee Zandri), whom he married on August 24, 1957, his daughter Carol Fiskio ( Jessie Hicks), his son John Fiskio (Stacy), his daughter Dr. Janet Fiskio (Dr. Ted Toadvine), his sister Lenore Fiskio. He is also survived by his much-loved nieces and nephews; also his brother-in-law, Robert Zandri (Elaine), his sisterin-law, Arlene Garofalo (Tony), and his sister-in-law Barbara Halbing Fiskio. He was predecease­d by his brother, Peter Fiskio, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Kathleen Bratchell.”

Dr. Fiskio attended Hamden Hall Country Day School. After completing grade 10, he entered Oberlin College at the age of 15. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1955, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Connecticu­t where he was elected to Phi Kappa Phi, National Honor Society, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland in 1960. He then joined the U.S. Army, where he served in the Dental Corps from 1960 to1962. Following his discharge, he opened a dental practice in New Haven, CT, in l962, and moved it to East Haven in 1963. His many patients admired and appreciate­d his excellent skills.

He served as Executive Board member of the New Haven Dental Associatio­n and served as President 1978-1979. He was also a member of the Connecticu­t State Dental Associatio­n.

Mike had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed listening to his many classical music recordings. In addition, he and Ginger hiked, cycled, snowshoed and cross-country skied. Mike also had fun rock climbing and playing racquetbal­l. After he retired, they moved to Bridport, Vermont, and enjoyed these activities with many friends. They moved to Middlebury, VT, in 2019, where he passed away. He will be greatly missed.
