Suspect in Rite Aid robbery arrested

MONROE — One of several suspects in the July robbery of a Monroe Turnpike Rite Aid was apprehende­d in New York Tuesday, according to local police.

Ishmael Henry, 25, was charged with second-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit firstdegre­e larceny and criminal liability for acts of another/ second-degree threatenin­g, Lt. Michael Sweeney, support services division commander for the Monroe Police Department, said. Sweetney said Henry’s last known address is in the 160 block of MacDougal Street in Brooklyn.

The robbery occurred at the Rite Aid at 508 Monroe Turnpike on the afternoon of July 13, according to Sweeney. He said it was reported to Monroe police as a robbery in progress around 3:40 p.m.

Witnesses reported that multiple male suspects wearing face coverings entered the store and walked to the pharmacy area, according to Sweeney. Three of the suspects then demanded that staff open a safe containing narcotics as a fourth stood watch in an aisle, Sweeney said.

When the safe was opened, the three suspects emptied it of its contents and proceeded to exit the store, according to Sweeney. Witnesses reported the four suspects drove away in a dark sedan with New York license plates, Sweeney said. It was last seen heading northbound on the Monroe Turnpike.

Monroe police eventually identified the car and accordingl­y developed suspects, according to Sweeney. Investigat­ors obtained a warrant for Henry’s arrest sometime before Henry was arrested on unrelated charges Tuesday, Sweeney said.

Following his arrest, Henry waived extraditio­n and was taken into custody by Monroe police, according to Sweeney.
