Sr. M. Clelia Mazza (Amelia Mazza) died peacefully on February 20, 2023 at Sacred Heart Manor, Hamden, CT. She was 98 years old and professed as an Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for 69 years. Sr. Clelia, daughter of the late Leopoldo and Maria Stella (Torsini) Mazza, was born on June 22, 1924 in Coriano, Forli, Italy. Sr. Clelia entered the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on March 8, 1951 in Rome, Italy. She professed First Vows on September 12, 1953 in Rome, Italy and Perpetual Vows on August 25, 1958 at Mount Sacred Heart, Hamden, CT.

Sr. Clelia arrived in the United States as a missionary in August 1954 and began her ministry at St. Anthony Home in New Haven, CT. She became a naturalize­d citizen on August 30, 1960. Sr. Clelia is the last of the immigrant Apostles who came as missionari­es from Italy.

Sr. Clelia served as a groupmothe­r at St. Anthony School for Exceptiona­l Children in Oakmont, PA and at Clelian Heights School for Exceptiona­l Children, Greensburg, PA. She was known for her kindness and for her loving guidance of the special children in her care. Sr. Clelia retired to Sacred Heart Manor in 2009 where she prayerfull­y fulfilled her mission as an Apostle Adorer.

Sr. Clelia is survived by her niece, Daniela Tintori of Milan, Italy, and her nephew, Stefano Mazza of Pesaro, Italy. She is affectiona­tely remembered by her religious family, the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and by many friends. Along with her parents, Sr. Clelia was predecease­d by her brother, Dino.

The Wake will take place on February 24, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Manor Chapel, 261 Benham St., Hamden,

CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on February 25, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Manor Chapel followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, CT.
