Bethel woman looks for love on new dating show ‘Love Trip: Paris’

Raised in Bethel, Caroline Renner said au revoir to dating in the United States, and bonjour to finding love in Paris for a new dating series.

Freeform’s reality dating series, “Love Trip: Paris,” follows four American women living in a Paris penthouse together in search of love. They use an app to connect with singles that also live in the penthouse. Each episode, the four women eliminate them making space for new people.

Renner is a 27-year-old queer woman (26 at the time of filming) who said she was over the dating scene in the U.S. One month before filming, she got a sign to take a chance. She was awakened by her cat one night and couldn’t get back to sleep, so she killed time scrolling on her phone. That’s when she came across an ad that said, “looking for lesbians that speak French.” and applied.

“I was like, ‘That is my whole brand,’ and applied,” she said. “You know that scene in ‘Bruce Almighty’ where he sees all those billboards that were specifically for him? That’s how I felt when I saw the ad.”

Renner got a call to interview for the show and a week before filming, she was chosen to be on the show.

Renner was has been drawn to French culture since she received a “Hello Kitty” book as a child which showed Hello Kitty traveling the world. She started learning French in the seventh grade and continued her studies through college.

Renner said she struggles with sticking to a “type” — a Megan Rapinoe-esque look, specifically, she shared. But the show helped her open her mind and give every one a chance, beyond how they look.

“I wanted to give everyone a chance. If you put yourself in a box, you limit yourself to potential opportunities that may be really good for you,” she said.

The first two episodes were released on Valentine’s Day, followed by one episode a week on Tuesdays on Freeform. It and will also stream on Hulu the next day.
