Ann Burrow

Ann Rademacher Burrow passed away peacefully in Hamden, Connecticut on January 29, 2023 at 93. Born on November 25, 1929 to Grace Corwin Rademacher and Everett S. Rademacher, Ann attended high school in Hamden, CT and graduated from Mount Holyoke College before continuing her education at Brown University, where she earned a Master’s degree in biology. Ann met her future husband Gerard Noel Burrow ( Jerry) at Brown, where he was an undergraduate student in a section taught by Ann. Ann is survived by her three children, Peter N. Burrow (Rula Habal Burrow) of Guilford, CT, Elisabeth H. Burrow (Mitja Kosir) of Fergus, Ontario and Sarah R. Burrow (Richard Marshall) of Oakville, Ontario. She is further survived by five grandchildren: Samuel Burrow, Jessica James, Ryan Marshall, Owen Marshall and Nolan Marshall. Ann and Jerry were married for 55 years. Two months after the birth of her first child, Ann boarded a Pan Am 707 at Idlewild Airport with her baby and eventually arrived in Nagasaki, Japan where Jerry was already working as a physician with the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission. During her two years in Japan, Ann studied flower arranging and calligraphy. She loved flowers and practiced her skills with blooms until the day she died. Returning to Connecticut from Japan, Ann became active in various non-profit and charitable organizations. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a Brownie troop leader, a member of the League of Women Voters and an advisory board member for a company working with animal research models in St. Kitts. She was a keen member of Fortnightly, a women’s group and actively participated in the New Haven Garden Club’s efforts to make floral beauty available to everyone. While her life began and ended in Hamden, she did live in Marseille, Toronto and San Diego. Along the way she met two U.S. presidents and other heads of state. A private burial service will be held at the Grove Street Cemetery. A link to the service video will be available by request. No cards or flowers please.
