Cops: Milford EMT kidnapped co-worker
BRIDGEPORT — A Milford EMT has been accused of kidnapping a co-worker at gunpoint early Thursday morning before leading officers on a chase through several towns, police said.
Bridgeport police said Bradley Doyle, 22, kidnapped and carjacked the woman around 1:10 a.m. Thursday at American Medical Response, where they both work. Police said Doyle and the 22-year-old woman had previously been in a dating relationship.
Police said a witness called 911 after seeing Doyle force the woman into her car.
Connecticut State Police spotted the vehicle in several towns, but
Doyle “disregarded their attempts to stop and continued to flee at a high rate of speed with the victim in the car,” Bridgeport police said.
Police said state troopers were able to apprehend Doyle in Higganum, about an hour north of Bridgeport. A trooper initially tried tried to stop Doyle around Exit #12 of Route 8 by activating his vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens, but Doyle resisted and sped up. The trooper finally intercepted Doyle after his duty supervisor called off the pursuit around Exit #16.
The woman was found safe, police said.
Connecticut State Police charged Doyle with carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, engaging police in pursuit, interfering with a police officer and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Bridgeport police said they have obtained an arrest warrant, charging Doyle with robbery by carjacking, first-degree kidnapping, firstdegree unlawful restraint, first-degree threatening and first-degree reckless endangerment. Bond was set at $1 million. His court date is set for March 13, 2023, according to a Connecticut State Police press release.
Police said Doyle is under police guard at a Connecticut hospital. Police did not say why he was in the hospital.
