Ursula Ann (Wallace) Hayes, 89, passed away on February 24, 2023 at her home. She was predecease­d by her loving husband of 63 years John Joseph Hayes. Ursula was born in Bronx, New York on October 6, 1933. She attended Mount Saint Ursula High School and received a bachelor's degree from Notre Dame College, Staten Island.

Along with her husband, Ursula was predecease­d by her parents William and Mary (Heffernan) Wallace.

Ursula was an elementary school teacher at Long Ridge School in Stamford and Fort Trumbull School in Milford. Leaving teaching to raise her children, she was very involved in Saint Mary School, starting the hot lunch program and the basketball tournament, which is celebratin­g its 47th year. Upon returning to work, she became the bookkeeper at Saint Mary Church where she stayed until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, friends, and family and always had great stories to tell of her adventures. Throughout her adult life, when she was not working or travelling, you could always find her at a game or event for her children and grandchild­ren. She was extremely loyal, maintainin­g friendship­s for decades.

Ursula was a devoted parishione­r of St. Mary Church. She was an active member of the Ladies Guild and was a Eucharisti­c Minister for many years. She was a recipient of the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciati­on, given by the Archdioces­e of Hartford, for her countless years of volunteeri­ng for St. Mary Parish and school.

Ursula is survived by her five children: Michael (Meghean) Hayes of Orange, Mary Hewitt of Milford, Patricia (Michael) Gargiulo of Cheshire, John (Elizabeth Mazzabufi) Hayes, Jr. of Milford, and Robert (Kristen) Hayes of Woodbridge. She will lovingly be remembered by her grandchild­ren: Charise, Charles, Jennifer (Albert), Michael, Patrick, Brian, Kerry ( Jake), Brendan (Sarah), Sean, and Clare and her great-granddaugh­ter Beatrix. She also leaves her brother Reverend William Wallace and sister Mary Catherine Wallace, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her devoted care givers, including Manel and Cremilde, and the medical profession­als from Home Care Plus for their many years of varied assistance.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford, CT on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 11:00 am, followed by interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Milford.
