Faith Augur McCarthy, 95, of Northford, the beloved wife of the late Robert E McCarthy for 60 years, passed away peacefully with her daughters at her side on February 26, 2023. Faith was born in New Haven, Connecticu­t to the late Anna and Joseph Augur. She lived in the home she and Bob built 65 years ago until the time of her death. Faith earned her Bachelor’s degree from Albertus Magnus College, her Master’s degree from Middlebury College, and her 6th Year in Educationa­l Administra­tion from Southern Connecticu­t State University. Faith spent most of her teaching career as a Spanish teacher and Foreign Language Department Chair at Branford High School. She was the district liaison for the New Haven Yale Internatio­nal Studies Center. She served as a consultant for the Yale Center for Internatio­nal and Area Studies and also coordinate­d its Cooperativ­e Language Program. Upon her retirement from public school teaching, she served as an instructor of Spanish at Albertus Magnus. Faith’s contributi­on to public education was recognized with her induction into the Branford Education Hall of Fame in 2012.

Faith and Bob enjoyed many travels, including three-generation trips with their family. Faith especially enjoyed visiting countries where she could use her Spanish language skills. She was a member of The Owenego in Branford for over 70 years, where she enjoyed friendship­s, sunshine and swimming. Faith served her church community of St. Augustine as a lay lector and Eucharisti­c Minister.

Faith is survived by her daughters, Patrice Kirshbaum and her husband Donald of Wallingfor­d and Joann Oleynik and her husband Kenneth of Woodbridge; and her grandchild­ren, of whom she was very proud: Lynn and Sara Kirshbaum and Colleen and Ryan Oleynik. She is also survived by her sister and six nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit the Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., North Haven, on Friday, March 3 from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4 at noon at Church of the Resurrecti­on in Wallingfor­d. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
