I have met an angel and his name is Jeff

-

I have heard that angels walk amongst us, but I never met one until Jan. 11, 2023. My husband was transferred by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, after our local hospital was unable to provide him with the specialist that he needed.

It was a long, frightening, exhausting day, but before my son and I headed home to Rhode Island we decided to stop at our favorite New Haven eatery, Louis Lunch, for a cheeseburger. As I was picking up the burgers, the man behind the counter handed me my order and said, “Hope everything works out.”

I thought, what is happening? How does he know of my suffering? “What?” I asked him.

He lifted his chin to motion to my chest, where I was still wearing my hospital visitor pass!

It brought a small smile to my face when I realized the source of his knowledge. Until he disclosed how he knew, I had totally felt he was other worldly.

Turns out he was!

My husband has remained in the hospital for over 40 days. During this time, I have visited Louis Lunch two to three times a week, and there has never been one time where the “angel” who I have come to know as Jeff has not asked about my husband.

He always inquires and encourages me. His generosity of spirit has never let me down! I look forward to my visits and giving him my updates, as my husband has progressed from being unable to speak or breathe on his own to being ready to be discharged and hopefully soon, able to enjoy a Louis’ cheeseburger of his own!

Jeff laughed that first night when I told him I thought he was an angel, but I know now, I was right all along!
