Rich Farm Ice Cream’s flagship location in Oxford announced in a social media post it will open for the season on March 15. Its Bristol location at 409 Hill St. opened on March

Shop owner and operator Dan Rich expressed his excitement on the opening, saying the shop’s favorite thing about ice cream season is making people happy while providing a nice environment for people to enjoy their homemade ice cream.

Rich Farm Ice Cream located on 691 Oxford Road, opened on July 3, 1994 by David and Dawn Rich on what was originally called Ajello’s Farm. The farm was started five generations ago by Raffaele Ajello, David’s great grandfather. More than 70 years later, Ajello’s son Thomas purchased 100 acres in Oxford and moved the farm there where David and Dawn took over the dairy business, according to the website.

For its 29th season, Rich said the shop will have special flavors on opening day like March Madness (chocolate ice cream with Oreos, Reese’s cups, peanut butter sauce and fudge) and Irish Cream (a Baileys Irish Cream-based ice cream.) The farm makes all its own ice cream in small batches and makes fresh waffle cones every day. Other flavors include German chocolate brownie, peaches and cream, razzmanian devil and more.

There might also be one or two more special flavors added on opening day that will be announced the day before the opening on Facebook and Instagram, Rich said.

Rich also confirmed the company will also be opening a new location in Middlefield in the spring. The Rich Farm Ice Cream’s Brookfield location remains operational yearround and the brand also has a location in Placentia, Calif.
